Tips to stay healthy during Summers!

Healthcare News

Summers can be challenging and demanding compared to the other seasons due to the scorching heat. The heat, teamed with sweat, rashes, and sunburn, can overwhelm an individual’s daily routine to stay fit and active.

The sun’s rays can cause breakouts and other ailments, some of which can even be serious, such as sunstrokes, dehydration, dizziness, and weakness. Here are a few tips to help maintain good health and prevent illness during summer.

Nine Tips for Staying Healthy During Summers

Paying special attention to our health in summer is essential as it can affect our physical and mental health. Here are nine tips that can help you maintain good health during summer.

  1. Hydration is the key to good health in summer: During summer, we tend to perspire heavily and lose a lot of water due to sweat. Rapid loss of water can cause dehydration, a condition that can be life-threatening since water makes up more than 60 percent of our body composition. Drinking plenty of water and fluids is essential to remain hydrated and avoid overheating.

  1. Include Loads of Green Vegetables in Diet: Green vegetables like spinach, lettuce, green beans, and all other green vegetables have high water content and contain several essential nutrients like iron, folates, magnesium, and calcium. They are easy to digest if properly cleaned and cooked. Taking our daily dose of greens is essential to regulating healthy body temperature and keeping our body weight under control.

  2. Keep Moving to Stay Fit: Working out might seem difficult during summer. One may feel fatigued easily. However, it is essential to stay physically active as this can help build stamina and immunity to stay fit. One may try doing different forms of exercise than usual workouts; swimming lessons can help an individual to stay active and, at the same time, lose some calories and stay fit.

  3. The Rule of CEM: CEM refers to cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. With the soaring temperatures, skin problems like dry patches, sun rashes, sunburn, or hyperpigmentation begin to arise. The sun’s extreme heat may also be responsible for excessive oil production and, thus, frequent breakouts. Therefore, it is equally essential to take special care of our skin. One must cleanse the skin frequently and remove the top layer of dirt and pollution. Exfoliation may help remove dead skin cells and help skincare items penetrate better. Moisturizing hydrates the skin and keeps it fresh.

  4. Remember to apply SPF: Before venturing out in the sun, one must apply sunscreen with a broad UVA spectrum. Sunscreens should be applied even indoors, as harmful ultraviolet rays can reach our skin even indoors. Sunscreens with a minimum SPF of 30 should be applied. It is always good to consult a skin specialist in case of any irregularities on the skin.

  5. Wear Light Clothing: One must wear loose, light-coloured clothing instead of skin-fit denim, which is considerably thicker. Tight clothing makes it difficult for body heat to escape through the skin, which can lead to overheating. The friction of the fabric with our skin for a prolonged period can cause rashes and irritation. To reduce damage, try to cover the body parts directly exposed to the sun.

  6. Limit Caffeine and Alcohol Intake: Caffeine and alcohol may cause dehydration. While consumption in moderate amounts may not have severe consequences, excessive intake may result in increased blood pressure, headaches, or even cardiac issues. A warm cup of coffee may increase body temperature and can cause discomfort during summer.

  7. Reduce Sun Exposure: Try to remain indoors between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., as the sun’s rays are strongest and harsh during this time range. Too much sun exposure especially summer sun, can cause skin problems, including skin cancer.

  8. Rest Well: One must ensure that sufficient rest is taken, especially sleeping well. Our body recovers and reenergizes during sleep.

Making minor changes to our daily lives can help us stay healthy and fit during the rising summer temperatures. In case of not keeping well one must consult a general physician.
