Pune: Free health exams between September 26 and October 23 revealed that almost 2.19 lakh women in the state might be at risk of developing hypertension.

The screenings were conducted for women over 18 as part of the “MataSurakshit Tar Ghar Surakshit” program to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Over 1.73 crore women over 18, including 81 lakh women over 30, were screened by the state’s health services.
The state’s Family Welfare Department’s assistant health officer, Dr. Anirudha Deshpande, stated: “Early detection was the main goal of this campaign when it was first started. There are no immediate signs or symptoms of non-communicable diseases. Often, it’s too late by the time we realize how these diseases affect the body.”
